My mother Margaret Collins was a professional actress and singer long before I was born. In fact her first role was
as a singing icicle at age 4.
Throughout her life she performed with numerous companies across Canada including the Cleff Society, The Point Grey
Operatic Society, Heritage Musical Theatre, The Charles Laughton Players and Metro Playhouse in Vancouver.
Her last acting role was portraying Ethel Thayer in On Golden Pond playing opposite her grandson Michael.
In addition to acting she was also a popular jazz singer with Rick Conway and the Gordy Page Band. No doubt she would find it ironic that she died in her 88th year, 88 being the number of keys on the piano.
Over the years, Margaret made a number of sacrifices to allow me to enjoy the kind of life I have today. For this
I will always be grateful.
To me she will always be Fraulein Schneider and the source of much of my creative spirit.
